M-98 Ballistic Alloy Combat Shield

A large, advanced composite armor-plate, fixed to one arm of a standard or light Combat Suit, to provide some portable cover and extra resilience in combat. It's not used actively like a medieval shield, but simply to absorb damage until destroyed. It leaves both hands free to manage a weapon, and in fact can aid in bracing a mounted weapon for aimed fire (Acc +1; see p. B364). Unlike other components, the shield does count as encumbrance for a battlesuited soldier, and adds its DR to attacks from the front.
Statistics: DR 30 (Semi-Ablative; Directional, Front). Weight 30 lbs.
